Levothyroxine is a synthetic (man-made) version of the principle thyroid hormone, thyroxine (T4), that is made and released by the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone increases the metabolic rate of cells of all tissues in the body. In adults, thyroid hormone helps to maintain brain function, food metabolism, and body temperature, among other effects.
Bodybuilders are particularly attracted to Liothyronine for its ability to burn off body excess fat. Most often utilized during contest preparation, one can greatly decrease the amount of stored fat without being forced to severely restrict calories.
A usual dose for an average person starts at 50 mcg (0,05 mg) daily and more. It is recommended that levothyroxine be taken half an hour to an hour before meals to maximize its absorption. As compared to T3, levothyroxine requires significantly higher doses to be effective. Most bodybuilders don’t exceed 100mcgs of liothyronine (T3) during a precontest phase of dieting, but with levothyroxine (T4) the doses climb significantly higher to achieve the same results.
